چکیده

Many Driver Support Systems in future vehicles will rely on wireless communication. This wireless communication can be divided into two categories: Vehicle-toVehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I). V2V is often used for vehicles to exchange information of a local nature, e.g. co-operative following or collision avoidance. V2I can be used as ’smart road signs’, access to back-end networks (e.g. Internet) or as simple repeaters. The term VANET is key to V2V and V2I communication: Vehicular Ad hoc Network. A Driver Support System described in [1] presents an interesting problem: a vehicle should be aware of the state of traffic on a road, up to several kilometers ahead. A system called the TrafficFilter has been proposed in [2] to provide this information. In summary, the TrafficFilter uses multi-hop V2V communication to dissiminate information over distances of several kilometers. This information is expressed in a structure called a TrafficMap. The TrafficMap consists of entries which are sampled representations of the local traffic flow speed, shown in Fig. (a). These samples are produced in a fashion similar to Run-length Encoding.

Over-the-Horizon Awareness for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: the TrafficFilter and microSlotted 1-Persistence Flooding

Vehicle-to-vehicle communications (V2V) is a promising technique for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to increase traffic safety and efficiency. A proposed system is the Congestion Assistant, which supports drivers when approaching and driving in traffic congestion. Studies have shown great potential for such systems to reduce the impact of congestion, even at low penetration. However, these ...

Evaluation of flooding schemes for real-time video transmission in VANETs

Long-distance real-time video flooding over VANETs is a challenging topic due to the dynamic nature of vehicular networks. Real-time video transmission has high requirements in terms of bandwidth and delay, while VANETs are characterized by very limited radio resources and high mobility. Our objective is to compare ten different flooding schemes specially designed for this task, selecting the b...

Speed adaptive probabilistic flooding in cooperative emergency warning

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are emerging as the preferred network design for intelligent transportation systems and are envisioned to be useful in road safety and commercial applications. A significant issue in VANETs is the design of an effective broadcast scheme which can facilitate the fast and reliable dissemination of critical safety messages to neighbouring vehicles in case of an u...

Mitigating Broadcast Storm Problems in Vanets

For efficient data dissemination over a network, the most commonly used solution is broadcasting the messages by flooding the data over the network. Issues concerned with flooding are redundant rebroadcasting of messages and collision leading to broadcast storm problem. This paper proposes a strategy to overcome the broadcast storm problem in an Vanets using the bounding algorithm. Our analysis...

Analysis of Probabilistic Flooding in VANETs

It is known that probabilistic flooding in mobile ad hoc networks is characterized by phase transition phenomena [1], similar to the ones observed in the context of random graphs and percolation theory [2], which suggest the existence of a critical rebroadcast probability value beyond which high reachability is achieved with high probability. The phenomenon has been recently observed in the con...
